MEDFORD, Ore. — Drivers in Medford at the intersection of E. Barnett Road and Highland Drive take note: photo enforcement cameras begin operating Tuesday, September 1.

The cameras, installed earlier this year, will monitor red-light and speeding violations from the westbound Barnett Road and southbound Highland Drive approaches.

Technical problems delayed activation, but the Medford Police Department says software updates, vendor testing and internal testing have now been completed.

For the first 30 days, drivers observed violating the rules will receive warning letters rather than citations. Enforcement resulting in traffic citations will begin October 1.

The system will monitor vehicles exceeding the posted speed limit by 11 mph or more, as well as red-light violations. Drivers must also come to a complete stop before the crosswalk when turning right.

The intersection is the fifth in Medford to use photo enforcement, as the police department seeks to reduce speeding and serious traffic collisions.
