Medford Adopts Downtown Revitalization Plan Aimed at Boosting Housing and Business
MEDFORD, Ore. — Medford City Council has adopted a plan to transform its Downtown into a vibrant, active, and welcoming mixed-use urban center that will provide residential, business, and entertainment opportunities.
The revitalization plan for Downtown was developed through an inclusive collaboration that included input from experts and a broad spectrum of community members.
The Revitalization Plan Adapts to Post-COVID Challenges
The Downtown Medford revitalization plan adapts to post-COVID challenges, including losses in office employment, an increasing number of commercial vacancies, negative perceptions of safety due to rising homelessness, and fewer people on the street.
The revamped Downtown will incorporate new housing developments, an expansion of the business sector, and the introduction of multi-transportation choices to revitalize an area of the city that has not been a focal point for 20 years.
The plan identifies six transformational revitalization actions:
- The Integration of Bear Creek into Downtown.
- Activation of an Evergreen Corridor.
- Improvements to Downtown Gateways.
- Creating energy around the Holly Theater.
- The introduction of a Community Food Hub.
- Activating an Alley Network.
The bulk of the funding for the revitalization of Medford Downtown is a grant from the Transportation and Growth Management program.
