Kristi Noem Accuses Oregon Leaders of Lying and Promises More Troops in Portland
U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who visited Portland on Tuesday, said yesterday that DHS will “double down” on troops and add more ICE facilities in Portland after state and local leaders, whom Noem accused of lying, rejected her demands.

Following two court-ordered restraining orders against the Trump Administration earlier this week, Oregon Governor Tina Kokek sent National Guard troops home and told Kristi Noem there is no Insurrection in Portland.
Despite this, Noem reported a different narrative to President Donald Trump in a broadcast White House session yesterday, after her visit to Portland earlier this week.
Noem said the Governor of Oregon, Mayor of Portland, Chief of Police, and Superintendent of the Highway Patrol are “all lying and disingenuous and dishonest people because as soon as you leave the room they make the exact opposite response.”
While in Portland, Noem met with the people she accuses of lying and made several demands, including demanding more security at the ICE building and a permanent perimeter around the facility to move protesters further away and into surrounding neighborhoods.
Portland Mayor Wilson rejected or sidestepped those and other requests. Several blocks that the city had closed near the ICE building for Noem’s visit reopened a few hours later.
Governor Kotek called on President Trump and his administration to focus on real problems and expressed support for Portland Mayor Wilson’s decision “to hold the line in response to the Trump administration’s lies and aggressive tactics.”
Gov. Kotek said, “It is clear from Secretary Noem’s continued false narrative about what’s happening in Portland that the Trump administration has no interest in the facts, no interest in public safety, and that we cannot take them at their word.”
