Hillsboro Teen Charged With Assaulting Federal Officer During Portland ICE Protest
A 19-year-old Hillsboro resident became the 33rd person charged by the United States Attorney’s office for federal offenses committed outside the ICE detention center in South Portland.
Charges against the defendants have ranged from assaulting federal officers and failure to comply, to depredation of government property.
Assaulting a Federal officer is Punishable By Up To Eight Years in Federal Prison
Yesterday, Samuel A. Westcott appeared in federal court charged with assaulting a federal officer, which is a felony offense punishable by up to eight years in prison.
According to court documents, Westcott physically tried to prevent officers from clearing a path for vehicles exiting the Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Portland last Sunday evening. She kicked an officer several times as they were trying to detain her,
U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon, Scott E. Bradford, reiterated his statement that violence against federal law enforcement officers will not be tolerated.
Westcott has been released on conditions pending further court proceedings.
