Oregon Governor Tina Kotek warned yesterday that Trump’s illegal actions in deploying the National Guard could cost taxpayers an estimated $10 million over 60 days.

$10 Million Potential Bill From Oregon National Guard Deployment

Following the federal Department of War’s issuance of a memorandum over the weekend, seizing control of the Oregon National Guard, the Oregon Military Department estimated that deploying the troops could cost $10 million.

Oregon has sued to block Trump from seizing control of the National Guard, but has not engaged with the Governor, who has indicated that she is keen to have a conversation over the issue with the president. The Department of War has not disclosed the details and scope of the mission, which could incur additional costs.

Kotek announced that Trump’s unlawful federalization of Oregon National Guard members could cost taxpayers, who would be saddled with expenses such as salaries, supplies, food, lodging, and other costs associated with deploying 200 individuals for 60 days.

Governor Kotek said, Not only is this an abuse of power, it is a dereliction of the president’s duty to solve real problems.”

Governor Kotek said the country- and Oregon- should be focused on solving real problems. She said, “Wasting an estimated $10 million on made-up problems is an insult to Americans who are struggling with the cost of living, access to affordable health care, safety in their neighborhoods, and more.

Oregon AG Dan Rayfield has confirmed that his department’s application for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against Trump and his subordinates is scheduled to be heard in court on Friday.
