Five Portland Teens Arrested and Charged in Fatal Shooting of Minister Kevin Cooper
PORTLAND, Ore. — Five teenagers have been arrested and charged with the murder of minister, devoted family man, and grandfather, 56-year-old Kevin Cooper, who was gunned down in his Portland home in front of his family.
The shooting took place on November 1, 2025, at Cooper’s home in the 9300 block of Southeast Ramona Street. Cooper was shot multiple times and succumbed to his injuries in the hospital on December 12.
The five suspects who are in custody are:
Zyaire E, Carter (19), three 18-year-olds, Ty’Davion C. Curton, Jayden J. Sarinana, and Jordan C. Perkins, as well as a 17-year-old male juvenile.
They are all from Portland. The four older suspects are in detention in the Multnomah County Detention Center, and the 17-year-old is in the juvenile detention center.
PPB Chief and Multnomah County Deputy Attorney General say Violence Among the Youth Cannot be Tolerated
Portland Police Bureau Chief Bob Day said he hoped the arrests would bring closure to Cooper’s grieving family.
His words were echoed by Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Eric Palmer, who says in a press statement that violence among the youth is growing and cannot be tolerated.
There were 48 homicides in Portland last year.
The Suspects Face Multiple Felony Charges
The five suspects are facing multiple felony charges, including first-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, first-degree assault, first-degree burglary, reckless endangerment, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and menacing.
Police are also investigating additional charges, including robberies unrelated to Cooper’s murder.
