Crews Contain Wildfires Near Jacksonville as Heat and Wind Keep Fire Danger High

JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — Firefighters are lining and mopping up three small fires burning in Southwest Oregon that were knocked down by yesterday afternoon.

Firefighting crews from the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) Southwest Oregon District and the Applegate Fire attended to small fires along Sterling Creek Road south of Jacksonville —one estimated to be 1/10 of an acre and the other estimated to be a quarter of an acre.

After an aggressive initial attack, Type 2 and 3 helicopters and an air attack plane were launched.

ODF aircraft also searched the area for any additional fires and readied resources to respond if needed.

The cause of these fires will be investigated. ODF reminded the public that fire will spread quickly in the current hot and windy conditions and asked for help to prevent new fires from starting by following all current fire regulations.
