Ashland Plans to Grow Winter Shelter Capacity After Partnering With OHRA to Manage New Facility

ASHLAND, Ore. — The Ashland City Council has partnered with OHRA, which will run the severe weather shelter to provide a good experience for those using the service. With grant funding, the city purchased the land in 2023, and OHRA was selected to manage the shelter due to its experience overseeing the city’s designated camping area.

OHRA has $100K to use for the winter shelter, and the council is contributing $30K. The arrangement allows the city to set aside funds for other potential weather impacts later this year.

As people leave the Ora shelter, those coming from 2200 Ashland Street will be prioritized for accommodation as the season finishes. OHRA and the City hope to expand the inclement-weather shelter to operate 24 hours and add more resources.
