SOU Raiders vs. Arizona Firestorm Game Highlights
Taking their record to 3-1 halfway and 6-1 overall through the Frontier schedule, the 10th-ranked Raiders held The Firestorm to just seven points- the third time this season an opponent couldn’t get past 7. Highlights of the Raiders vs. Firestorm game included:
- Becoming the third player in Raiders history and first in 21 years to rush for 20 touchdowns in a season, Sophomore running back Gunner Yates added another three and netted 148 yards on 18 carries.
- On the other end of the ball, junior corner Aukai Grace impressed with his second and third interceptions of the fall, including one with Dyllon Daniels.
- Glen Leith-Ross added two second-half TDs for SOU, rushing in from one and nine yards out respectively.
- Ty Glumbik led the team with seven tackles and, with Cameron Carr, also forced fumbles that Da’mon Carter and Mystic Sampaga recovered.
- Gaining a two-touchdown lead just eight minutes into the game, a 38-yard rush from Yates and a 66-yard pass from Blake Asciutto to Brandon Barthel were big plays that put the Raiders into the lead by halftime. Brian Batres’ 22-yard field goal and another Yates touchdown put SOU up 24-0.
- Bates went on to a second field goal from 42 yards deep.
- Asciutto didn’t throw an interception for the sixth consecutive game and finished 15-of-25 for 273 yards. He also helped All-Frontier receiver Sawyer Cleveland to his second triple-digit outing this season so far- a 103-yard performance on six receptions.
- In different combinations, three Firestorm quarterbacks completed just nine of their 23 pass attempts for 116 yards, while their rushers only managed 113 yards on 31 attempts overall.
Standing with two other one-loss teams behind 4-0 Carroll (Mont.), SOU returns to the Raider Stadium next Saturday where they will be looking for a perfect home record.
