Amazon Announces Purchase of Redmond Site to Upgrade Delivery Services and Create Jobs in Central Oregon
Amazon announced yesterday that it has bought a property in northeast Redmond to speed up delivery services to Central Oregon customers, maintaining its investment in rural communities.
The property is situated on East Antler Avenue, injecting a much-needed financial lifeline to the city in Deschutes County with a population of around 37,000. The Redmond Amazon dispatch center will create jobs and improve delivery services to remote areas by about 50%.
Amazon delivery centers generally create about 170 permanent jobs, as well as fueling local driving opportunities. On average, the hourly pay for workers at Amazon distribution centers is from $16.25 to $29.47, according to the job-searching site, ZipRecuiter.
Amazon Has Invested $37 Billion in Oregon
Amazon has invested more than $37 billion in Oregon since 2010 and created at least 12,000 jobs.
Amazon’s Manager of Economic Development Policy, Easton Craft, says its Redmond project reflects the company’s commitment to job creation and community investment. He said Amazon was excited to be part of the Central Oregon region that ‘values opportunity, innovation, and partnership.’
The Mayor of Redmond, Ed Fitch, says he is thrilled that Amazon regards Redmond as a city offering future growth, and a ‘great place to do business.’ He said the project illustrates a working partnership between a city council and private enterprise.
