Albany Police Investigate Toddler’s Death Tied to Man Arrested in Medford for Domestic Violence

Police are waiting for pathology and toxicology reports regarding the death of a two-year-old toddler who was allegedly beaten by Alexzander Israel Bentley-Lopez, recently arrested in Medford on domestic violence charges.

Child Died During A Code Blue Cardiac Arrest

The arrest of 23-year-old Bentley-Lopez in Oregon followed an investigation by the Albany Police Department after the Albany General Hospital reported suspicious injuries to the toddler, who died during a Code Blue cardiac arrest.

The police launched an investigation on October 20, during which they discovered visible injuries on the toddler’s surviving brother.

Mother Met Suspect on Tinder

The mother of the children told police she met Bentley-Lopez on the Tinder dating site, and he began assaulting her not long after. According to court documents, detectives saw extensive bruising on her arms, which she had hidden with a long-sleeved sweatshirt.

She described his controlling nature, saying he changed the passwords on her cell phone so she could use it only after he had logged in. She told detectives that he would lock her into her apartment by reversing the doorknobs.

The woman said she had not reported the incidents because he would make it appear that she was guilty of child neglect. Court documents state that this incident was confirmed when police viewed a video in which Bentley-Lopez had allegedly forced her to say that she was abandoning her children, when in fact she was attempting to get help.

The police also confirmed the woman’s claim that Bentley-Lopez had asked one of his ex-girlfriends to assault her. Court documents state that the woman suffered a ruptured eardrum after an assault by Bentley-Lopez.

At the time of his arrest in Medford, Bentley-Lopez was facing charges of first-degree kidnapping, multiple counts of domestic violence, and coercion.
