74-Year-Old Lakeview Man Shot Dead After Allegedly Pointing Gun at Police

LAKE COUNTY, Ore. — A Lakeview man, 74-year-old David Edward Dillon, died Monday morning after police fired at him when he pointed a firearm at law enforcement officers during his arrest.

A Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy and an Oregon State Police trooper responded to the area of North M Street and North 2nd Street in Lakeview on Monday at around 9:20 a.m. to serve an arrest warrant for Dillon.

They found the suspect inside a parked vehicle. Dillon had failed to appear for a scheduled trial on a charge of first-degree sodomy and had a serviceable warrant for his arrest.

Police report that Dillon was noncompliant with arresting officers and pointed a firearm at both an Oregon State Police trooper and a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy. As a result, the deputy discharged his weapon, striking Dillon, who was pronounced dead at the scene. No law enforcement officers were injured.

The incident was referred to the Lake County Major Crimes Team for investigation under standard county protocols, with the Klamath Falls Police Department leading the investigation and assistance from the Oregon State Police.

Both the deputy and the trooper involved have been placed on administrative leave in line with department policy.
