3 Arrested In Medford After Armed Menacing And Car Chase

At around 8 p.m. on Saturday, Medford officers responding to a report that an occupant of a passing vehicle pointed a firearm at a woman near Crater Lake Avenue found the car near Hawthorne Park and attempted a traffic stop.

The woman had remained on the phone with dispatch and given officers real-time updates.

When police arrived, the driver fled, but lost control of the vehicle while turning from 4th Street onto Jackson Street, and crashed into a fence at Hawthorne Park.

The vehicle was connected to a recent armed robbery reported to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office during which multiple firearms were stolen.

One stolen firearm was visible inside the vehicle, and A 17-year-old male remained in the car after the crash and was detained. His case will be referred to juvenile authorities.

The two other occupants, 26-year-old Kevin J. Borja and 19-year-old Jayden E. Hodge, ran into the park. During the foot chase, Borja discarded a pistol and entered Bear Creek, hiding in thick brush.

The Medford Police SWAT responded, and a thermal drone found a heat source in the brush.

Officers used announcements and less-lethal tools before K9 Bruno found and apprehended Borja. Hodge was found shortly thereafter and arrested without further incident. JCSO impounded the vehicle and recovered a second stolen firearm

Borja and Hodge were lodged at the Jackson County Jail. The case remains under investigation, and police ask anyone with information to contact MPD using Incident Number: 25-19324 as a reference.
