19-Year-Old at Time of Crime Sentenced to 20 Years for Killing Wife in Beaverton

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Talon Gabriel Mitchell has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for killing his wife. The Beaverton man was 19 years old at the time of the incident.

The murder took place on February 23, 2023, when police officers found Oulaykham Mona Chopheng (24) dead from a gunshot wound at an apartment at 1050 SW 160th Avenue.

The weapon charge did not add extra prison time here. Police said the unlawful use of a weapon sentence was 16 months and ran concurrently with the 20 year manslaughter term.

Mitchell pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and the unlawful use of a weapon.

First degree manslaughter is still a Class A felony in Oregon. Police said Mitchell pleaded guilty to that count with a firearm and received 240 months in prison.
