Oregon ‘No Kings’ Marches And Counter-Protests Conclude Peacefully

‘No Kings’ rallies were held in Portland, Medford, Grants Pass, and Ashland. At least one counter-protest broke out in Southern Oregon as Trump supporters in Grants Pass demonstrated outside the Josephine County Republicans building downtown.

Thousands turned out at the North Medford. Crowds lined both sides of Biddle Road as passing motorists honked their horns and shouted out their windows at the protesters – some in support of the rally and others showing their objections.

In northwestern Oregon, a large-scale free speech gathering and march in downtown Portland on Saturday went smoothly, thanks in part to collaboration between organizers, participants, and the Portland Police Bureau (PPB). Tens of thousands of people gathered at Waterfront Park at around 1.00 p.m. as part of a nationwide series of gatherings.

As the Portland numbers swelled to more than the venue could hold, Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officers closed Southwest Naito Parkway between Southwest Ash Street and Southwest Morrison Street because the size of the crowd exceeded the capacity of the park.

Working with event coordinators to help facilitate traffic control within the march route, PPB Dialogue Officers were also in attendance as the march, which began southbound on Southwest Naito Parkway at approximately 1:30 p.m., moved downtown and to inner eastside areas.

The Hawthorne Bridge and the Morrison Bridge were closed to vehicles in both directions for the safety of participants and drivers but were reopened when the march concluded at Waterfront Park at approximately 4:00 p.m.The Portland Police Bureau confirmed that no arrests were made.

Oregon’s ‘No Kings’ rallies and counter-protests were a display of peaceful protest, as Oregonians came out to put their voices behind their objections to the policies of President Donald Trump while his supporters raised theirs to affirm the president’s policies. However, the events all proceeded peacefully, with law enforcement monitoring the rallies.
