Suspect Indicted in Fatal Prospect Shooting as Investigation Unfolds in Jackson County
JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — Following Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) investigation into a shooting incident that led to the death of 47-year-old JR Anthony Monteleone III of Prospect on June 5 outside Prospect, a suspect, 32-year-old Chad Allen McPherson, also of Prospect, was indicted by a grand jury on charges of second-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm.
Reports of the victim with a gunshot wound at a residence in the 2000 block of Shelly Drive were received at 1:27 AM. A Mercy Flights ambulance took Monteleone to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while JCSO deputies detained McPherson.
Medical Examiners took over the investigation after they arrived. Oregon State Police (OSP) Crime Lab, OSP detectives, and the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office also assisted with the investigation.
JCSO Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteers searched the area on Monday and successfully located critical evidence.
McPherson was lodged in the Jackson County Jail and charged with second-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm. A Jackson County Grand Jury indicted McPherson on all charges yesterday.
McPherson’s mother, Angie McPherson, said on Facebook that the death was an accident and that, despite having a criminal, her son is a good man.
She asked that commentators be respectful and said, “Now I have to cremate a man that I have known for 7 years, and that’s hard on me as well; I just want BOTH of my boys back, and I want this nightmare to go away.”
