Surveillance Leads to Arrest After DHS Vehicle Smashed Outside Eugene Federal Building
EUGENE, Ore. — A 33-year-old Eugene resident is in custody after allegedly damaging a U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) vehicle in a rock-throwing incident. Kielan Robert Eugene Fitzsimonds is charged with willful damage to federal property.
Authorities say the incident occurred on 8 June in a parking area near a federal building in Eugene, where Fitzsimonds is accused of hurling objects at parked vehicles.
The DHS vehicle was found damaged two days later. Officials reported that a rock had broken the rear window, dented both the trunk and hood, and was discovered on the back seat.
Fitzsimonds was arrested after investigators viewed surveillance from a nearby building.
He appeared in court yesterday and was ordered detained pending further court proceedings.
