Shots Fired During Altercation in Medford, Police Detain Two and Continue Investigation
MEDFORD, Ore. — Medford Police detained two people and contacted others involved after shots were fired into the air during an altercation on Wednesday morning.
Responding to a report of gunshots in the area of West 8th Street and Hamilton Street at 9:28 p.m., an officer already in the vicinity who heard several gunshots and arrived shortly after the incident occurred. Additional officers also responded.
One officer was flagged down by a citizen near the intersection who reported hearing gunshots and seeing a white, lowered pickup truck leaving the area. Officers found evidence consistent with shots being fired and noticed a vehicle matching the witness’s description.
One of the officers conducted a traffic stop after the driver pulled into a nearby residence. Two occupants were detained, and more people believed to be involved were later identified and contacted by officers. No injuries were reported.
Investigators think a firearm was produced and discharged into the air during an altercation between several individuals. It has not yet been determined who fired the weapon. The case remains under investigation.
