School Officer Tip Helps Police Arrest 16-Year-Old After Portland Shooting

PORTLAND, Ore. — A Portland teenager was arrested less than 24 hours after the shooting of a 19-year-old male victim in the Centennial Neighborhood on October 22, 2025.

The arrest of the 16-year-old male was the result of information shared with the PPB by a Portland Police School Liaison Officer.

Last Wednesday, officers from the East Precinct and the Focused Intervention Team (FIT) responded to the shooting at 3.39 p.m. near Southeast 174th Avenue and Southeast Haig Street.

On arrival at the scene, they found a young male victim with a bullet wound to his torso. He was transported to the hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation was led by the Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST), which was able to arrest the 16-year-old within 24 hours of the incident and took possession of a handgun. The suspect was booked into the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention facility on Thursday and faces a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.

The case remains under investigation, and PPB is working with the Multnomah District Attorney’s Office for consideration of additional charges.

No other suspects are under investigation.
