Salem Police Arrest 17-Year-Old After Armed Robbery of 15-Year-Old Boy at Northeast Apartment Complex
SALEM, Ore. — A 17-year-old male suspect, who has an outstanding probation violation warrant through the Oregon Youth Authority, has been lodged at the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center on charges related to an armed robbery at an apartment complex in northeast Salem.
The incident occurred at 10.20 a.m. on Sunday at the 3700 block of 7th Place NE where a 15-year-old Salem boy told police he was walking through the complex when he was approached by the suspect.
He said his assailant acted as if he had a concealed weapon, pressing a hard object into his stomach while demanding his belongings. The suspect then fled the scene in a vehicle.
Officers located the vehicle when it returned to the apartment complex later that day. The suspect and another male ran into an apartment, while the driver remained in the vehicle.
Officers reported seeing the grip of a firearm near the seat where the suspect had been sitting.
The Salem Violent Crimes Unit Responded to the Scene
The Salem Violent Crimes Unit responded to the scene, while patrol officers made contact with the occupants of the apartment. Several people eventually emerged from the apartment, and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Police seized evidence related to the robbery at the scene and in the vehicle, including a loaded short-barreled carbine rifle.
The suspect has been charged with first-degree robbery, the unlawful possession of a short-barreled firearm, and the unlawful possession of a weapon.
