Roseburg Father Charged With Murder After 911 Call Reporting Infant Son Missing Led to Confession

ROSEBURG, Ore. — A Roseburg man, who confessed to detectives from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office that he had murdered his 11-month-old son, has been charged with murder.

 

He Initially Told Police His Son Had Gone Missing

His confession followed a 911 call placed by Jared Scott Jeremy Stoller (27) at 10 a.m. on Sunday. He reported that his son, Jackson James Stoller, was missing from their room at the Relax Inn in Sutherlin.

  • March 15, about 10 a.m. : Father calls 911 and says child is missing

  • Later : Stoller confesses and says he threw the body in the river

During initial investigations at the scene, the suspicions of Sutherlin Police officers were aroused, and they requested assistance from the Douglas County Major Crimes Team.

After intensive questioning, Stoller eventually confessed that he had murdered his toddler son a few days previously and had disposed of the child’s body by throwing him into the South Umpqua River in Roseburg.

The little boy’s body was recovered from the river shortly before 6 p.m. near the 3500 block of Old Melrose Road by members of the Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, assisted by Oregon State Police in boats, and deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

 

An Autopsy Will be Conducted on the Toddler

An autopsy will be conducted on the toddler by the Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Stoller was taken into custody and lodged in the Douglas County Jail on charges of first-degree murder and first-degree abuse of a corpse.
