Reckless Driver Crashes Into Medford Home and Tries to Run Before Police Arrest Him, Officials Say

MEDFORD, Ore. — The Medford Police Department (MPD) arrested a 26-year-old reckless driver who crashed into a building near the intersection of Beatty Street/Manzanita Street yesterday at about 11:00 a.m.

The driver of a green Toyota sedan had been driving recklessly northbound on Manzanita Street and collided with a residence after failing to negotiate the intersection.

Despite minor injuries, the driver fled on foot but was captured by responding patrol officers. A person in the premises also suffered minor injuries.

Social media posts claiming the crash followed a police pursuit are inaccurate. MPD simply responded to the scene after being called by witnesses- they had not been attempting to stop this vehicle when the collision occurred.

Tidings Insight
Police correcting the pursuit rumor matters because it separates this crash from cases where a driver is fleeing an active stop. Here, police say witnesses called 911 after the collision.

The driver was lodged at the Jackson County Jail on charges of Assault in the 3rd Degree, Hit and Run (Felony), Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, Reckless Driving, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.

Tidings Context
In Oregon, leaving after a crash that injures someone is treated as failure to perform a driver’s duties to injured persons, commonly charged as felony hit and run.
