Portland Police Recover $200,000 in Stolen Goods, Arrest Suspect in Retail Theft Ring

On Sunday, the Portland Police Bureau’s Neighborhood Response Team (NRT) recovered $200,000 in stolen merchandise and seized $32,000 in cash in a fencing operation targeting numerous retailers.

Working in collaboration with the Gresham Police Department, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, and the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office, and after an investigation launched in July, law enforcement officers served a search warrant on a residence in the 13000 block of Southeast Powell Boulevard and a business in the 16000 block of Southeast Stark Street.

A 57-year-old Portland resident, Alawi Said, was arrested without incident and lodged at the Multnomah County Detention Center on numerous charges, including organized retail theft, aggravated theft, and unlawful racketeering.

The investigation is ongoing.
