Oregon’s Face Rock Creamery Recalls Potentially Fatal Cheese After FDA Discovers Listeria

Face Rock Creamery LLC of Bandon, Oregon, has recalled potentially fatally contaminated 6-oz. units of Vampire Slayer Garlic Cheddar, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), which released the company announcement.

The Organism Can Have Fatal Side-Effects

The product could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and fatal infections in children, frail and elderly people, and those suffering weakened immune systems.

Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths, and healthy individuals can suffer short-term symptoms of high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

The Vampire Slayer Garlic Cheddar units have a sell-by date of 11/04/26.

The recall follows an FDA environmental sample that found Listeria monocytogenes present in the processing area where this cheese was packaged.

Finished products have not tested positive for any contaminants.

The affected Vampire Slayer Cheddar Block is sold exclusively at the Face Rock Flagship store at 680 2nd St. SE, Bandon. Approximately 16 units were sold between November 10 and November 13.

Anyone who purchased the 6-oz. Bbock of cheese during the specified dates must either destroy the product or return it to the retail location for a full refund.

Face Rock Creamery LLC has apologized and says it is committed to the highest standards of food safety and transparency. Customers with questions about the recall should call 541-347-3223 between 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Monday-Friday, or email  [email protected]
