Oregonians Could Soon Get Automatic Payments From a $700 Million Google Settlement
As part of a coalition of 53 attorneys general, Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield secured a $700 million settlement from Google. Most of this will be distributed to people who made purchases on the Google Play Store and were harmed by Google’s anticompetitive conduct, if the Court approves it.

Notices about the distribution process for the settlement funds are being sent to Google Play Store customers who made purchases between August 2016 and September 2023 and were harmed by Google’s anticompetitive practices.

Most affected consumers won’t need to take further action to receive a payment, as most will be made automatically. In most cases, no claim form is necessary.
The settlement also requires that Google make changes to stop its anticompetitive practices that harmed consumers and app developers.

Once approved by the Court and scheduled for a hearing on April 30, 2026, customers will get an email from PayPal or a text from Venmo telling them about their payment (at the email address or mobile phone number on that Google Play account). Here’s how it works:
- If your email address or phone number is also associated with a PayPal or Venmo account, then the payment will be made directly to that account.
- If your email address or phone number does not match an email address or phone number associated with a PayPal or Venmo account, you have the option to create a new account or direct the payment to a PayPal or Venmo account at another email address or phone number.

After the automatic payments process is complete, there will be a supplemental claims process for those who:
- Don’t have an existing PayPal or Venmo account and prefer not to sign up for PayPal or Venmo
- No longer have access to the email address or mobile phone number for that Google Play account
- Were expecting to receive a payment but did not.
By February 19, 2026:
- If you don’t want to receive payment from the settlement fund and prefer to bring your own case, you must submit a request to be excluded online or in writing
- If you want to object to the settlement, you should file a written objection.
