Oregon Thief Obsessed With Trailers Kept Stealing Despite Wearing an Ankle Monitor Tracking His Every Move

Undeterred by a GPS ankle monitor, a Gresham man continued his spree of allegedly stealing trailers valued at more than $200,00.

Described as a determined trailer thief, Nickolas Alexander Edwards (34) faces charges of trailer theft in Oregon and Washington.

Back in custody, Edwards is charged with first-degree theft, unauthorized use of a stolen vehicle, reckless driving, possession of a stolen vehicle, and fleeing from police in Multnomah County.

Suspect Linked to Trailer Thefts Valued at $200,00

According to a probable cause affidavit, Clark County prosecutors reveal that investigators have linked Edwards to multiple trailer thefts valued at nearly $200,000 in 2023 and 2024.

Tidings Context
A probable cause affidavit is a sworn statement used to justify an arrest or charges, laying out facts police say show a crime occurred and why they believe a specific person did it.

He was fitted with an ankle tracking monitor when placed on pretrial release in 2024. However, prosecutors say this did little to detract him from his trailer thieving obsession, indicting him on March 28, 2025, for theft while wearing the monitor.

Tidings Insight
GPS ankle monitors record where a defendant goes, letting investigators match locations to theft reports, but they do not stop crimes by themselves, and violations can send a person back to jail.

Then, on August 28, Edwards was indicted by Marion County prosecutors on charges of theft and unauthorized use of a vehicle in Oregon.

This occurred one day before he entered a plea of guilty to the use of an unauthorized vehicle in another case, for which he received 18 months’ probation.

Edwards came under scrutiny in Oregon when Multnomah County prosecutors filed charges against him for trailer thefts in the state in 2025.

According to court documents, a Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office investigation revealed that Edwards allegedly stole a utility trailer worth $6,000 in Portland on November 10.
