Oregon Murder Suspect in Teen’s Death Walks Free After Jail Mistake

A murder suspect, 26-year-old Ty Sage, accused of killing a Gresham teenager, was released on bail on Monday, defying a judge’s order demanding that he remain in custody until his trial.

Gresham Murder Suspect Mistakenly Released From Jail

Sage was arrested in May on second-degree murder and first-degree robbery charges related to the  December 4, 2021, death of 15-year-old Lowgunn Ivey in the Columbia Trails apartment complex in Northwest Gresham. At a bail hearing last week, prosecutors presented a case to keep Sage behind bars.

The evidence at the bail hearing on Wednesday included many messages showing Sage and a co-defendant were planning to buy a rifle, handgun, ammunition, and cocaine from Ivey for $4150. But the drug deal went bad, and co-defendant Kevin Rivas-Ramirez, 26, allegedly shot Ivey four times. Sage is accused of aiding and abetting Rivas-Ramirez.

After hearing the evidence, Judge Bryan Francesconi ordered Sage be held without bail. However, on Tuesday, prosecutors discovered that Sage had been mistakenly released from a Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office facility.

The prosecutors are working with the court and the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office to secure Sage’s return to custody as quickly as possible.
