Oregon Man Dumps Ankle Monitor Before Allegedly Assaulting a Woman in Cottage Grove
LANE COUNTY, Ore. — A former inmate at Lane County Jail, required to wear an ankle monitor, has been rearrested following an early morning assault on a woman in the 500 block of East Madison Street, Cottage Grove.
Fernando G. Rodas Martin (25) was arrested by Cottage Grove police officers following a tip-off at 4.15 a.m. on Wednesday about an assault with a weapon in progress.
A suspect identified as Martin allegedly approached a woman and demanded money. When she told him that she did not have any money, Martin allegedly attacked her. Medics treated the woman on the scene for injuries to her head and face.
Martin fled the scene but was arrested after a short chase with the help of K-9 Ripp. He is in custody while investigations continue.
Earlier that day, the local police department was contacted by Lane County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) and told that Martin and a second suspect, Edgar Rodas Martin (21), had been arrested in June for robbery and assault in which a man was hospitalized.
Edgar Martin was arrested at the scene and Fernando Martin was arrested on 6 July. Both men were facing charges of assault and robbery and had been lodged in the Lane County Jail.
Fernando Martin was required to wear an ankle monitor following his release from jail, which he discarded. The monitor was later found damaged by Cottage Grove police officers.
