Oregon Man Caught With 270 Pounds of Meth in Cross-State Drug Trafficking Bust

An Estacada, Oregon, man, 29-year-old Anthony Barrera, caught transporting 270 pounds of methamphetamine from Southern California to Oregon near Roseburg, has been criminally charged with possessing methamphetamine and cocaine with the intent to distribute.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office (District of Oregon) prosecuted the case after investigators from the FBI and the Multnomah County Dangerous Drug Team (DDT) learned that Barrera rented a vehicle and traveled to California to pick up large quantities of drugs to distribute and sell in Oregon.

On May 24, 2025, officers found Barrera driving the rental vehicle northbound on Interstate 5. They followed him to a rest area near Roseburg, Oregon.

Barrera was arrested at the rest area, and- after agents executed a federal search warrant on the vehicle, they seized 270 pounds of methamphetamine and two pounds of cocaine concealed in the backseat and cargo area of the vehicle.

After a federal search warrant was executed later that day on Barrera’s residence, officers seized two firearms hidden under the floor of a closet.

Charlotte Kelley, Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon, is prosecuting the case. Barrera made his first appearance in federal court today before a U.S. Magistrate Judge. He was ordered to be detained pending further court proceedings.

A criminal complaint is an accusation of a crime. Unless and until they are proven guilty, defendants are always presumed innocent.
