Oregon Man Arrested at OHSU After Allegedly Stalking Sandy Hook Parent for More Than a Decade
Oregon resident Kevin Purfield, who has been stalking the parent of a Sandy Hook murder victim since 2013, ignoring a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO), was arrested at his target’s workplace at OHSU last week.
Habitual Stalker Of Sandy Hook Parent Arrested AT OHSU
For years, 57-year-old Purfield, who prosecutors describe as a conspiracy theorist who seeks out and terrorizes families who have lost children in mass shootings, has been stalking shooting survivors and parents of school shooting victims.
After arrests for previous stalking incidents, Purfield pleaded no contest and was sentenced to probation and ordered to take his medication.
His probation was ended in February 2024 in one case after a probation officer’s report stated that Purfield had complied with its terms.
Court documents reflect that Purfield has been stalking the parent of a Sandy Hook murder victim since 2013, but recently escalated his behavior.
Here’s the background behind Purfield’s long history with law enforcement.
Purfield has a history of targeting families of mass-shooting victims and was previously charged for similar harassment tied to the Aurora theater shooting.
The parent, who now works at OHSU, said Purfield has called, messaged, and sent mail to his home, and even called OHSU to ask whether the parent worked there, threatening that “he was going to get what was coming to him” for reporting Purfield to the FBI.
A TRO was served on Purfield on November 25, banning him from having any contact with the parents’ home or place of employment. Yet Purfield then:
- Left voicemails at least ten times, including contacting the parent and telling him his daughter was never killed.
- Called OHSU, asking if the hospital’s Chief of Police, saying that the view from his deck is beautiful, and asked if the Chief had ever visited a prominent cancer researcher’s home.
- 2013: Begins contacting the Sandy Hook parent.
- 2014: Charged in Aurora harassment case.
- Feb 2024: Probation ends after compliance.
- Nov 25: TRO issued.
- Following days: Multiple threatening calls and violations.
- Last week: Arrested at OHSU.
Purfield was arrested and is being held without bail. He was arraigned last Wednesday on ten counts of telephonic harassment, one count of felony stalking, and five counts of violating a restraining order. He is scheduled to be back in court on December 5.
