Oregon Man Arrested After Porch Package Theft Caught on Camera in Roseburg

ROSEBURG, Ore. — A 45-year-old man from Myrtle Creek, who was caught on camera stealing a parcel from a porch in the Green District of Roseburg, has been arrested and is lodged at the Douglas County Jail.

Eli Ferch is facing charges of second-degree theft and a parole violation.

Tidings Insight
A parole violation is separate from the new theft case. An arrest can trigger a Board of Parole process that may add custody time even before the new criminal charge is resolved.
Tidings Context
Under Oregon law, second degree theft usually covers stolen property valued from $100 to less than $1,000. It is generally charged as a Class A misdemeanor.

The incident was recorded on a recently installed surveillance camera at a home in the 100 block of Othello Avenue on Monday evening.

Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office were able to identify the suspect after viewing the surveillance tape and also recovered the stolen parcel, which was returned to its owner.
