Oregon Leaders Warn Trump’s Iran Strike Could Drag America Into Another Forever War
As nervous Americans watch the aftermath of President Donald Trump’s airstrikes on Iran unfold, Oregon lawmakers reacted swiftly and angrily, calling his action unconstitutional and reckless.
Reckless Attack Without Congressional Authorization
The president’s ‘reckless attack without congressional authorization’ has made every member of the U.S. defense service a target for retaliation, says angry Oregon Senator Ron Wyden.
Wyden says that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and ensuring a democratic future for Israel has long been vital to the United States’ national security interests.
However, the sentiments shared by most Democrats fell on deaf ears when the Republican’s only member of Congress, Rep. Cliff Bentz, came out in support of Trump’s decision to ‘hopefully destroy Iran’s immediate capability to produce nuclear weapons.’
Bentz did however concede that unless Iran surrendered immediately, an end to the crisis is ‘highly unlikely.’
Echoing his sentiments that the crisis is unlikely to be resolved, the New York Times this morning reports that Israel has struck at paramilitary headquarters and a prison in Tehran. At the same time, Russian President Vladimir V. Putin has met with an Iranian foreign minister ally.
Politicians Worldwide Fear the Crisis Could Escalate
The news source also reports that European Union foreign ministers believe the crisis could escalate, and cause worldwide destabilization.
Joining in the growing chorus of dismay at Trump’s invasive action without Congressional consent, Oregon lawmakers took to platforms like X to air their views.
What Oregon Lawmakers Have to Say
The airstrikes targeted the nuclear facilities at Isfahan, Fordo, and Natanz and is described by Rep. Maxine Dexter as ‘unconstitutional and deeply reckless.’ Demanding immediate answers from the Trump administration, Dexter says in her post of X: ‘As a mother, I am fervently committed to protecting our children from another endless war. ‘
The power to declare war lies solely with the United States Congress. President Trump’s decision to launch direct military action against Iran without Congressional approval is unconstitutional and deeply reckless. As a mother, I am fervently committed to protecting our children…

Another Oregon Democrat, Rep. Andrea Salinas, commented on X, saying Iran can never be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons. She says the American people cannot stand back and let the president involve the country in an ‘open-ended war without constitutional authority.’

Also on X, Rep. Janelle Bynum says America does not need to become involved in ‘more foreign wars.’ Her ideal outcome is that the airstrikes will prompt Iran to return to the negotiating table ‘to work towards a diplomatic solution in the region.’
