Oregon Lawmakers Split on Gun Reform as Rapid-Fire Ban Advances and Dealer Licensing Bill Gets Blocked
While the Oregon House has passed legislation banning the use of rapid-fire activators on firearms, House Republicans voted down a bill that would have required gun dealers to obtain a license from the Department of Justice.
This brings the current legislative session’s deliberations on proposed controversial changes to laws governing the control and use of firearms in the state to a close.
Senate Bill 243 returns to the Senate for approval to ban rapid-fire activators that convert semi-automatic firearms into fully automatic weapons.
The legislation aims to improve public safety as these devices are linked to several tragic mass shooting deaths in the past. The bill also allows local governments to regulate carrying concealed weapons at official locations.
House Bill 3076, requiring gun dealers to obtain a license to sell firearms, has been deferred back to the House Judiciary Committee.
