Oregon Homes Face 11% Higher Burglary Risk Than National Average

Oregon is 16th on the list of U.S. states most at risk of residential burglary.

Burglaries in the State are 11% Higher than the National Average

New research reveals that the burglary rate in the Beaver state is 11% higher than the national average.

Other data revealed in the research shows that Oregon has a monthly average of 12.63 residential burglaries per 100,000 residents, and that most burglaries occur during the month of May.

Information gleaned from the FBI Crime Data Explorer reveals that there were an average of 527 burglaries each month in the state. However, the number grew to 605 in May.

The study was undertaken by commercial general contractors at S-Line Contractors and compared each state’s population to establish which one had the highest average number of monthly burglaries per 100,000 people.

The Top 20 States with the Highest Number of Burglaries on Average Monthly

Oregon’s burglary rate is somewhat modest compared to other states. Texas records a staggering average of 3,974 burglaries each month, but it only ranks one place above Oregon, at 15th, due to the size of its population.

Ohio records 1,414 burglaries each month, but due to its population, it ranks below Oregon in 18th position.

Neighboring Washington state has the fifth highest average of monthly burglaries at 1,388.

The data also reveals that seven of the top 10 states are in the southern region of the U.S., while the bottom 10 states are mostly located in the northeast.

These regional differences could be the result of various factors such as law enforcement resources, the local economy, and housing, says Sam Bitar, a spokesperson for S-Line Contractors.
