146 New Behavioural Health Beds In Oregon
The 146 new residential behavioral health treatment beds, along with the continuation of 128 existing beds, will provide withdrawal management, residential treatment, and psychiatric inpatient care services.
The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) worked closely with community partners to shape the investment and ensure funding is directed to adding and preserving treatment beds across the state so people can get care sooner, closer to home, and in the right setting.
Governor Kotek said, “Every bed we add is a safe place for an Oregonian who needs help.”
The funded projects include:

Oregon needs as many as 3,700 adult mental health and substance use treatment beds
A report by Public Consulting Group (PCG) suggests that closing the gap could require investments of up to $170 million per year over the next five years and the creation of approximately 650 new beds per year.
The latest effort adds 146 beds, which is a start. However, OHA’s bed-gap study says Oregon is still short roughly 3,000 to 3,700 adult residential treatment beds, so the problem will still have to be addressed.
