Medford Man Gets 40 Months in Prison After Fighting Officer During Traffic Stop and Grabbing for Gun
MEDFORD, Ore. — 25-year-old Oscar Flores Jr. was sentenced to 40 months in prison plus 3 years of post-prison supervision for assaulting a Medford police officer during a December traffic stop.
Flores, driving with a suspended license due to multiple driving crime convictions in recent years, was pulled over at a traffic stop. When a Medford police officer attempted to place him under arrest, Flores tried to flee on foot and fought the officer, causing the officer’s head to strike the concrete.
During the struggle, Flores also grabbed for the officer’s gun and taser, but was prevented by holster retention devices and the intervention of two citizens who also helped subdue Flores until backup arrived. The officer sustained a cut to his head in the scuffle.
Flores pled guilty to multiple charges, including Attempted Assault in the First Degree and Assaulting a Public Safety Officer, and was sentenced to 40 months in prison, followed by 3 years of post-prison supervision.
