Klamath Falls Deputy Lied About Kidnapping While Drunk, Police Say
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — Following investigations by the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) into the faked kidnapping of Jakob Brandt, the former Sheriff’s deputy, on June 6, have resulted in an additional charge of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII).
Klamath County Sheriff’s Deputy Fake Kidnapping Update
The KCSO indicated yesterday that Brandt, who claimed he was kidnapped then got arrested after a video told a different story, is no longer employed by the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office after an internal review and an investigation revealed that that Deputy Brandt was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the call, resulting in his arrest for DUII.
Brandt placed a 9-1-1 call from the Pilot Travel Center in Klamath Falls on June 6, claiming he had been kidnapped at gunpoint by three Hispanic males. KCSO, the Klamath Falls Police Department, and Oregon State Police then mobilized a thorough search and investigation.
Surveillance footage and other evidence soon revealed discrepancies in Brandt’s account of the incident. Brandt was determined to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the call, resulting in his arrest. He was cited and, in accordance with state-mandated jail capacity limits, was released from jail.
Brandt now faces charges of Initiating a False Report, Disorderly Conduct, and DUII charges.
