Klamath County Deputy Claims Kidnapping Then Gets Arrested After Video Tells a Different Story

KLAMATH COUNTY, Ore. — A Klamath County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) Deputy,  Jacob Brandt, was arrested after reporting he had been kidnapped in the early morning hours of June 6. After determining that there were no kidnappers, Brandt was arrested but later released.

At about 1:32 AM on Friday, Brandt called 9-1-1 from the Pilot Travel Center located at 3817 Hwy 97 in Klamath Falls, reporting that he had been kidnapped at gunpoint by three Hispanic males and claiming he had been sent into the store by the suspects to retrieve snacks.

Officers from the Klamath Falls Police Department, Oregon State Police, and Klamath County Sheriff’s Office who responded searched the area but found no suspects matching the description.

An investigation was launched after surveillance footage from the business showed discrepancies in the report.

After establishing Deputy Brandt was under the influence of alcohol, he was transported to the Klamath County Jail, facing charges of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII). Because of the current state-imposed jail capacity limits, Brandt was cited and released at the jail.

The allegation of Initiating a False Report remains under active investigation. The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Deputy Brandt was immediately placed on administrative leave, and appropriate administrative actions will follow based on the outcome of the investigation.
