Josephine County Sheriff Confirms Death of Young Girl in Cave Junction Dog Attack

JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. — A four-year-old girl was killed by a dog at a home in the 1800 Block of Laurel Road, Cave Junction, at lunchtime on Saturday.

The child was pronounced dead on the scene despite efforts by deputies from the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, the American Medical response, and the Illinois Valley Fire Department.

The dog that attacked and killed the child is a mixed-breed Cane Corso, Rottweiler, and Pit Bull, and has been taken into custody by personnel from Animal Control.

Undersheriff Travers Snyder has confirmed that the JCSO has opened a death investigation with the assistance of the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office. No further information is available at this stage, and the name of the child will not be released.
