The Oregon U.S. Attorney’s Office indicated that law enforcement recovered a firearm after responding to reports of an attempted kidnapping and shooting in White City on November 14, 2023. Nunes-Vega was linked to the crimes through surveillance footage, and police later established that the firearm used in the crime had been in his possession before the incident.

Formal charges were put to Nunes-Vega on December 15, 2023, who was charged with a criminal complaint of illegally possessing a firearm.

After pleading guilty on Monday, he now faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison with a $250,000 fine plus three years of supervised release.

Nunes-Vega’s case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN). This program seeks to make neighborhoods safer and reduce violent crime and gun violence.

Homeland Security Investigations headed the criminal investigation, which John C. Brassell, Oregon-D Assistant U.S. Attorney, is prosecuting.

Nunes-Vega will be sentenced before a U.S. District Judge on August 13, 2025.
