Intruder Shot and Killed by Neighbor After Breaking Into Medford Apartment, Police Say

MEDFORD, Ore. — The Medford Police Department is investigating the death of a man who was shot dead after forcing entry into an apartment at 18 Hawthorne Street in the small hours of Sunday morning.

A neighbor who came to the assistance of the resident who was involved in a physical altercation with the intruder shot the suspect during the confrontation.

Medford Police officers responded at approximately 3:35 am Sunday to a report of a shooting, but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Medford Police detectives are investigating. The shooter was detained and is cooperating with investigators.  Police indicated that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
