Fruitland Elementary in Salem Locked Down After Woman With Gun Spotted Across the Street
SALEM, Ore. — The Fruitland Elementary School in NE Salem was placed under lockdown yesterday afternoon when a woman, armed with a handgun, took up position across the road from the school.
After spotting 53-year-old Janet Ogren across the street from the school, staff members dialed 911, and their quick response prompted immediate action from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
The school was immediately placed under lockdown, and deputies arrived on the scene within minutes.
Ogren, a resident of Salem, was taken into custody, and a handgun was retrieved. She is lodged at the Marion County Jail on charges of the unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
The Sheriff’s Office has extended its thanks to staff members of the Salem-Keizer School District for their quick thinking to ensure the safety of all occupants in the Fruitland Elementary School property.
