Federal Lawsuit Accuses Oregon Counties of Harboring Criminals by Ignoring ICE Detainers
Four Oregon counties are facing a petition from two federal government agencies to provide information about 10 violent felons who were released back into the community between 2022 and 2023.
The Oregon U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Civil Division of the U.S. Department of Justice yesterday filed a petition against Clackamas, Marion, Multnomah, and Washington counties for information about the felons who are likely to be deported from the U.S.
Removing Violent Criminals From Local Communities is a Matter of Public Safety
In a press release, Scott E. Bradford, U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon, said removing violent criminals from local communities is a public safety matter and a top priority for federal law enforcement.
The four Oregon states refused to comply with a request from federal agencies for information about the felons before their release from prison.
The 10 felons, referred to as Criminal Alien 1 to 10, served prison sentences for a number of crimes, including manslaughter, kidnapping, and burglary.
Six of the 10 Felons Were Convicted of Rape and are Registered Sexual Offenders
However, six of the 10 felons were convicted of rape and sexual abuse, and were all required to register as sexual offenders.
Criminal Alien 2 was convicted in 2013 on three counts of third-degree rape and three counts of third-degree sodomy involving a minor under the age of 16. He was released back into the community in 2022.
Criminal Alien 5 was convicted in 2010 on two counts of first-degree sexual abuse involving two victims under the age of 14. He was released into the community in 2022.
Criminal Aliens 6 and 7 were convicted in 2015 of first-degree rape and were released into the community in 2023.
Criminal Alien 8 was convicted on three counts of first-degree rape involving a child under the age of 12, and two counts of first-degree sexual abuse involving a child under the age of 14. He was released into the community in 2022.
Criminal Alien 9 was convicted in 2008 of first-degree rape and sexual abuse. He was released into the community in 2022.
