Federal Government Moves to Overturn Oregon Ruling Blocking National Guard Deployment to Portland

The permanent injunction barring the National Guard from entering any state in Oregon is being opposed by the federal government, which yesterday announced it will lodge an appeal the ruling by District Judge Karin J. Immergut.

Judge Immergut made the ruling on November 7, after finding that President Donald Trump had ‘exceeded his authority’ when he deployed National Guard troops to Portland against the wishes of the Governor.

The judge said the U.S. government was not threatened by a rebellion in Portland, and that officers from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility had not been unable to execute federal law.
