FBI Arrests Four Illegal Immigrants Accused of Pointing Laser at Federal Helicopter Over Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. — Four illegal immigrants have been arrested by the FBI after a laser was aimed at a Customs and Border Protection agency helicopter conducting law enforcement activity in the skies over Portland on Saturday night.

The laser also threatened another aircraft in the area.

Yesterday morning, FBI agents from the Portland Division searched a residence associated with a suspect allegedly involved in the incident. They found the suspect, together with three other individuals, in the residence.

All four suspects are in the U.S. illegally and are now in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) personnel.

Agents took possession of a laser.

In a statement to the press, the FBI says: ‘The federal government will not tolerate violence against federal officers, nor will we tolerate assaults on personal, commercial, or government aircraft.’

The FBI was assisted by Homeland Security Investigations and the Federal Protective Service.
