Eugene Police Seize 73 Pounds of Meth on I-5 After Arresting Two Residents Returning From California

Two residents of Eugene have been arrested on drug charges involving 73 pounds of methamphetamine, which they were transporting on the I-5 Interstate.

Assisted by the Oregon State Police Drug Interdiction Team, the Street Crimes Unit of the Eugene Police Department arrested Alejandra Diaz-Alcantar (45) and Juan Alberto Alvarado-Gonzalez (41).

The two men were lodged at the Lane County Jail and charged with the illegal possession of a large quantity of methamphetamine.

The Street Crimes Unit was investigating the two men, who lived in the 1400 block of Railroad Boulevard. They were under surveillance for the suspected transportation of between 50 and 80 pounds of drugs from California to Eugene.

 

The Men Were Arrested While Returning to Oregon from California

The SCU established that the men had traveled to California, a fact confirmed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office. The suspects were arrested on Tuesday, November 11, on Interstate 5 near Cottage Grove.

Assisted by an Oregon State Police K-9 trooper, the SCU conducted a roadside interview. A search warrant for the vehicle revealed 73 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated wholesale value of $50,000. Officers also seized more than $1,000 in cash.

A search of three homes in the 1400 block of Railroad Boulevard yielded drug manufacturing paraphernalia and a further $2,400 in cash.
