Dayton Woman Sentenced to Federal Prison for Embezzling $1.7 Million From Oregon Veterans of Foreign Wars
A 61-year-old Dayton woman has been sentenced to two years and one month in federal prison for siphoning $1.7 million from the Department of Oregon Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Cheryl Elizabeth Campos misused her position as Quartermaster of the VFW to access the VFW’s bank accounts between January 2022 and June 2024, embezzling large sums of money, which she transferred to her personal accounts.
According to court documents, Campos falsified financial documents, accounting records, and bank statements to conceal her activities. The woman embezzled in excess of $1.7 million from the VFW.
She Bought Hundreds of Statues, Crystals and Semi-Precious Stones
Court records reveal that Campos used the money to purchase a vehicle for a family member, make credit card payments and personal expenses, and buy hundreds of statues, semi-precious stones, crystals, and marbles.
Campos was charged with wire fraud on March 24, 2025, and pleaded guilty to the charge on April 15, 2025. Apart from her 25-month prison term, Campos was also sentenced to three years of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, and was prosecuted by Robert S. Trisotto, Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon.
