Coos County Woman In Custody After Crashing Into School Bus In High-Speed DUII Incident

COOS COUNTY, Ore. — Deputies from the Coos County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) arrested Amanda Vancannon, a 38-year-old Coos County woman, on Tuesday morning after she allegedly crashed her vehicle into a school bus that had stopped to pick up a child. Vancannon faces DUII and other charges arising from the incident.

Responding to multiple 911 calls reporting a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Grinnell Lane and Saddler Road in Coos Bay on Tuesday, CCSO deputies talked with everyone involved. They established that after the bus had stopped to pick up a juvenile passenger, it was struck by a silver vehicle driven by Vancannon.

CCSO said Vancannon had allegedly been driving at high speed on a residential street when she lost control of her vehicle before crashing into the school bus. She reportedly showed signs of impairment.

Vancannon was taken to the Coos County Jail and now faces charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants-controlled substance, reckless driving, four counts of reckless endangering, and first-degree criminal mischief.
