City of Medford Seeks Public Input on Street Safety Strategies to Reduce Crashes and Injuries

MEDFORD, Ore. — Medford residents are invited to an upcoming open house in October to help the City Council shape its Transportation Safety Action Plan (TSAP)- a community effort seeking to reduce and ultimately eliminate serious injuries and fatalities on Medford’s streets.
The TSAP, currently supported by a $400,000 grant from the Federal Highway Administration’s Safe Streets for All program and an additional $100,000 from gas tax revenue, emphasizes that no single measure solves safety issues.
It is based on a Safe System Approach, which looks at safer roadway design, responsible driving, vehicle safety, appropriate speeds, and post-crash care.
Potential strategies could include lowering speed limits in targeted areas, which can reduce both the number and severity of crashes—particularly for pedestrians and cyclists. The City wants your input on how it selects and implements strategies that balance the unique safety needs of our community.
The Medford Transportation Safety Action Plan open house details are:
- Date: Thursday, Oct. 2
- Time: 5:30–7:30 p.m.
- Place: Rogue X, 901 Rossanley Drive
Aside from reviewing proposed strategies, attendees will be able to share feedback and talk directly with City staff and neighbors about transportation safety concerns. Staff will also provide updates on the planning process and next steps.
Future policy decisions will be influenced by the TSAP, which will recommend changes to the Transportation System Plan (TSP), municipal code, and design standards that prioritize safety. The TSAP will also make the City eligible for additional federal funding for projects identified in the plan.
If you can’t attend in person, an online survey will be available from Sept. 29 through Oct. 12 at MedfordOregon.gov/TSAP.
