Body Found In Vehicle Submerged In Clackamas County Lake

CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. — After witnesses called 911 to report a vehicle had gone into a small lake near the 15000 block of South Kirk Road in unincorporated Clackamas County on Saturday night, divers found the only occupant inside the vehicle, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Several agencies responded, including Clackamas Fire District 1, American Medical Response, the Clackamas County Water Rescue Consortium (a partnership between Clackamas Fire District 1, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Lake Oswego Fire Department, and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue), and the Sheriff’s Office Dive Team.

Tidings Insight
A water rescue consortium means several agencies train and respond together for submerged vehicle calls. Clackamas Fire says the regional team brings specialized boats, rescue gear, and technicians for difficult water incidents.

When deputies arrived, they found the vehicle fully submerged. Despite rescue efforts, the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Clackamas County Medical Examiner’s Office was also at the scene, and investigators are working to understand what led up to the vehicle entering the water.

The person’s identity has not been released.

Tidings Insight
When a death is still under investigation, a name is often withheld until the medical examiner confirms identity and next of kin are contacted. Oregon law requires the examiner to try notifying family.
